POSITION SUMMARY:

The Student Behavioral Health Specialist will assist teams in determining the causes of students' challenging behaviors and assist school teams with the mental health referral process. The Specialist will conduct classroom-based observations and utilize multidemensional behavioral measures to collect data to aid in the design of treatment plans, progress monitor using evidence-based interventions, and highlight emotional and behavioral strengths. This position will also monitor the mental health referral process to ensure proper processing of referrals and quality provision of mental health services.

 

The Student Behavioral Health Specialist will help coordinate and manage supports provided to students in the area of behavioral and emotional health. Responsibilities shall include planning and overseeing team-building activities, implementing program policies, researching and gathering resources, and communicating with various stakeholders. This position is grant funded and thereby staffed year to year. This position reports to the Director of Student Behavioral Health and Well-Being.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Monitors the fidelity of implementation of mental health supports

at the school level.

 

Collects data and prepares reports as required by local, state, and federal agencies.  Conducts appropriate referrals and liaises with school personnel, parents, and agencies as needed.

 

Serves as a liaison between the District and community providers.

 

Provides direct services to schools to support mental health goals.

 

Provides overall leadership and oversight to teachers, principals, and others as needed in planning and utilizing courses of study in the development of improved program and curricula.

 

All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the

above services.

 

 

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education, or a related field required.

 

Minimum of one (1) year professional mental health experience in a K-12 education setting or private setting required.

 

Makes decisions and recommendations which routinely affect the activities of others.

 

Moderate and analytical level of judgment required; must use the pre-approved District platform for intervention and progress monitoring to deliver student interventions in the area of student emotional and behavioral health. Supervisor is available to review departmental recommendations.

 

Requires regular, frequent contact with internal personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance; requires continuing contact with community resources and social services agencies.  Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with intra-organizational teams.
