POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides field supervision, management, and training to Mechanic II. Performs inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance of all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and energy management systems at all buildings within the District. Supports HVAC Supervisor by providing leadership and job training in the daily operations of the Mechanic II. This position reports to the HVAC Supervisor.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Field supervision and assistance of Mechanic II positions. Assists with project management, assigned duties, and training. Identifies, selects, and performs a variety of general and specific repairs on all HVAC equipment; records repairs made and parts used according to departmental guidelines. Reports progress to employee and department supervisor. Provides direct assistance to contractors assigned to school/job sites with operational tasks as needed.

 

Operates various tools (i.e. hand saw, electric saw, planers, joiners, welding equipment, table saws, bench grinders, milling equipment, office equipment, etc.) relevant to repairs and installations.

 

Provides technical assistance and job training to Mechanic II and provides support to peers. Coordinates repairs through thorough communications across multiple departments to complete job assignments.

 

Assists with District and emergency and/or general assignments as operationally necessary.

 

All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.

 

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

High School diploma or GED required. 

 

Minimum of two (2) years of commercial HVAC experience required.

 

Makes repair decisions which impact the schools/buildings within the District.

 

Valid driver’s license required. EPA refrigerant license preferred.

 

Makes decisions and recommendations under the guidance of HVAC Supervisor. Moderate independent judgement required.

 

Requires regular, frequent contact with internal and external personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of importance; may require occasional contact with outside agencies and the District.

 

Provides field training, supervision, safety management and guidance to Mechanic II position.

 

Applies, recommends, and implements technology concepts to improve the effectiveness of the department. Familiarity and knowledge of computer applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Google Suite).

 

Variable work environment - Facility Services Complex, school grounds and all buildings. Subject to a wide range of temperature

 

Provides periodic on-call support after normal work hours (twenty-four [24] hours a day, seven [7] days a week to alleviate emergency situations.

 

Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds frequently and one-hundred (100) pounds occasionally

 

Walking, standing, kneeling, driving for eight (8) hours per day; must be able to climb a thirty (30) foot ladder and negotiate stairs

 

Before being extended an offer of employment, selected candidates will be notified by the district to undergo the required physical examination for this position. 

 

 

NOTE: This is a grade 21, 225-day position that pays for experience up to a Step 4.
