POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, serves as a support to classroom teachers or instructional area in providing educational opportunities for each student within In-School Suspension (ISS). This position reports to the Principal or designee.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides support to classroom teachers to coordinate the academic activities of students in the in-school suspension (ISS) setting, and provides assistance to students in completing the assigned work. Monitors students and maintains a safe and orderly environment within the ISS classroom. Assists with preparation of materials for instruction (including the copying/duplicating of materials, construction of bulletin boards, grading work, etc.). Performs special duties as required for meeting the unique needs of specific student populations; e.g. using physical restraints or other specialized behavior management techniques.
Provides support to students, teachers, and administrative staff by serving on the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Committees.
Assists with routine record keeping; assists with school-wide supervision such as loading/unloading buses.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
One of the below requirements must be met:

1. Hold an associate’s degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution.
OR
2. Have completed two (2) years of college coursework (sixty [60] semester hours or [90] quarter hours) above the remedial level with a grade of “C” or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution.
OR
3. Have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Paraprofessional experience serving school age children desirable. *Bilingual or bicultural experience required for certain positions.
Makes recommendations or decisions, which usually affect the classroom.
Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC-issued Paraprofessional License. Eligibility is based on the education requirements outlined in Formal Education. Note: The Certification Team will apply for the Paraprofessional License upon hire.
