POSITION SUMMARY:

The K-5 English Language Arts Academic Content Lead performs a variety of tasks to support the coordination of successful implementation of the K-5 English Language Arts programs at the district level. Responsibilities include planning, developing and monitoring academic programs for the district. The K-5 English Language Arts  Academic Content Lead supports the Elementary English Language Arts Coordinator with ensuring instruction is aligned with the state-approved curriculum for the respective subject areas and interprets changes to the curriculum. The  Academic Content Lead will assist the Coordinator in evaluating the e?ectiveness of instructional programs and developing strategies for improvement. This position reports to the Coordinator – Elementary English Language Arts.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists with the development and implementation of curriculum support documents.  Ensures district-level personnel, teachers and principals are familiar with any curriculum changes in the respective content areas.  Works collaboratively with teachers to develop quality curriculum resources to support instruction including instructional plans and assessments.  Monitors the implementation of curriculum and program interventions. 

 

Serves as a facilitator for district-based professional learning for District academic program.  Supports various District-wide professional development opportunities.  Facilitates regularly scheduled department content lead meetings.

 

Assists with analyzing data and identifying effective instructional practices to support teachers.  Conducts observations of teachers for a specific academic program.  Conducts informational and professional learning sessions at school sites as needed.  Provides support to teachers in their classrooms through coaching, modeling and mentoring. 

 

Participates in regularly scheduled District and regional meetings.  Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

 

All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.

 

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Master's degree required.

 

Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience in content area of position required.  Leadership experience required.

 

Requires inter-division coordination.  Makes decisions and recommendations which affect the assigned division, but at times affects others outside of the assigned division.

 

GaPSC certification at Level 5 or higher in content area or related field. Reading endorsement OR Dyslexia endorsement OR completion of Science of Reading Modules required.

 

High level of judgment: Supervisor will review established broad objectives and approve executive-level decisions.

 

Requires regular, frequent contact with internal and external personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance.  Excellent interpersonal skills are required for interacting and working with various levels of individuals.

 

Requires excellent written and verbal skills.

 

Applies technology concepts to improve efficiency and effectiveness of District; must be proficient with computer.

 

Constantly (Daily) responsible for the welfare of others.

 

Normal office setting.

 

Requires frequent travel to off-site training locations and school site visits.

 

Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping.  

Light lifting or carrying 20 lbs. or less; may require lifting of 20 lbs. or more occasionally as related to work.

 

NOTE: This is a Grade 28, 225-day position that pays for experience up to a Step 8.
