POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, supports assigned classroom and/or community-based Pre-K teachers in providing safe, age-appropriate and effective educational opportunities for PreK aged students with disabilities. This position reports to the Principal and designee or district-level Department of Exceptional Students’ leadership team members.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides support to identified Pre-K students with disabilities served in, special education Pre-K classrooms, GA Pre-K classrooms, community early learning centers, and Pre-K natural environments. Leads instructional activities prepared by the teacher with small groups and individual students. Assists with preparation of materials for instruction (including the copying/duplicating of materials, construction of bulletin boards, etc.). Assists in taking data collection and administering informal assessments to monitor students’ progress.
Performs special duties as required to meet the unique and individual needs of Pre-K age students with disabilities. These special duties include but are not limited to lifting students with limited mobility, assisting with toileting/personal hygiene, assisting with food preparation and feeding, supporting the implementation of medical procedures, implementing specialized behavior management techniques as directed and trained.
Assists with routine record keeping and housekeeping.
Assists with classroom and school-wide routines and management processes. These duties include but are not limited to assisting with student arrival and dismissal (e.g. bus unloading/loading, walking to classroom, etc.), monitoring students during meal times, monitoring students during rest times and completing cleaning and/or sanitizing tasks.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
One of the below requirements must be met:

1. Hold an associate’s degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution.
OR
2. Have completed two (2) years of college coursework (sixty [60] semester hours or [90] quarter hours) above the remedial level with a grade of “C” or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution.
OR
3. Have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Paraprofessional experience serving school age children desirable. *Bilingual or bicultural experience required for certain positions.
Makes recommendations or decisions, which usually affect the classroom.
Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC-issued Paraprofessional License. Eligibility is based on the education requirements outlined in Formal Education. Note: The Certification Team will apply for the Paraprofessional License upon hire.

Training and/or experience in special needs of disabled populations such as first aid, ability to perform a two person lift for students as needed, or behavior management preferred.
Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittent sitting, standing, or stooping. Moderate lifting or carrying; fifty (50) lbs. or less.
NOTE: This is a grade 16, 190-day position that starts at a step 6 and pays for experience up to a step 8.
