POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides for overall leadership and coordination of the assigned school (middle or high) athletic program; facilitates programs at all levels that develop each student's physical skills and competency; equips students with knowledge-base and understanding of athletics rules. Directs, administers, and evaluates, those functions necessary for the successful operation of the assigned school. This position reports to the Athletic Director.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organizes and administers the overall program of extracurricular and interscholastic athletics for the assigned school. Hires, supervises, and evaluates athletic coaches and other personnel as necessary.
Administers school level implementation of new state standards; interprets all interscholastic policies, rules, and procedures, Georgia High School Athletics (GHSA as applicable) and District policies and procedures.
Administers the local school site budgetary needs, conducts fundraising efforts to support the Athletic program. Assumes responsibility for orders, inventory and distribution of materials.
Supervises student conduct and behavior within the school building, on school grounds and at school sponsored athletic activities in compliance with school and District policy, league and state rules and regulations.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree in secondary teaching field, (Physical Education, Health preferred) required.
Minimum of three (3) years teaching experience and five to seven years prior leadership experience.
Makes recommendations or decisions which usually affect the entire department/school.
L5 in Educational Leadership as required by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
Excellent leadership management, organizational and communication skills required.
Variable work environment - school grounds and all buildings.
Subjected to a wide range of temperature.
Must be able to stand, run and walk approximately seven (7) to seven and one-half (7½) hours per day.
Note: This position does not perform direct coaching functions.
Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. Moderate lifting or carrying 50 lbs. or less.
