POSITION SUMMARY: 

Responsible for providing classroom instruction and maintaining classroom management in the absence of the teacher of record. Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment; knowledge of child development; ability to work effectively with administrators, central office staff, school-based staff, students, parents, and the community; excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills; strong computer skills; knowledge of office and media equipment; and ability to give and follow oral and written instructions in the English language. This position reports to the Principal.

 

Substitutes employed with Clayton County Public Schools work on an as-needed basis with no guarantee of hours and are not eligible for benefits. Substitutes are reasonably assured to have the opportunity to work, provided schools are in operations. This will not apply in the event of any disruption that is beyond the control of the district (i.e., school closures, inclement weather).

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide classroom instruction for the teacher of record. Maintain classroom management for the teacher of record. Conduct behavior management strategies developed by the teacher of record. Organize learning environment to maximize student time on task. Maintain behavior which is conducive to learning. 

 

Participate in professional responsibilities as requested by the teacher of record. Cooperate with the staff and support the development of activities and goals of the school. Ensure proper communication protocol is followed as designated by the teacher of record. Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and other school and county level personnel.

 

All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

 

One of the below requirements must be met:

  1. Hold an associate’s degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution.

OR

  1. Have completed two (2) years of college coursework (sixty [60] semester hours) above the remedial level with a grade of “C” or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution.

OR

 

3. Have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
