POSITION SUMMARY:

Conduct independent and objective audits in all areas of the school district. Assess financial reliability, accountability, and compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.  Identify ways to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness; recommend new or improved internal controls to safeguard assets and mitigate risks. Complete audits and reviews in accordance with professional auditing and accounting standards.  This position reports to the Audit Manager.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist and conduct operational, financial, and compliance audits. Review applicable state laws, legal requirements, school board policies, internal procedures, and business practices. Identify areas of risk; assess risk management; and evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls. Document audit fieldwork. Prepare formal audit reports for audit management approval and issuance to the Superintendent and other individuals as appropriate. Conduct follow-up audits to ensure management has timely implemented corrective action(s).

 

Execute financial audit program for all schools to determine conformance with school board policies and administrative procedures. Examine financial transactions, assess internal controls, identify areas of risk, and prepare formal audit reports for audit management approval. Present area(s) of concern and recommendations to audit and school district management.

 

Assist with the development and implementation of an annual audit plan. Research and respond to audit inquiries or requests. Complete special projects and audits as assigned. Attend seminars, workshops and/or conferences to enhance proficiency in audit techniques. Maintain appropriate continuing education credits as required by professional auditing standards. Provide guidance to other audit department personnel with various audits as requested.

 

Assist with training school administrators, personnel, and department staff on internal controls and risk mitigation.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance or a related field required.

 

Minimum of five years in accounting, auditing, or a related field; preferably in a school or governmental environment.

 

Make decisions and recommendations which often affect the school district. Maintain the highest level of integrity and confidentiality.

 

Valid Georgia driver’s license is required.  Active certification or working on certification as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or other related certification is preferred.

 

Moderate level of judgment: technical, independent judgment is necessary. Must have the ability to manage competing deadlines; solve problems, and create action plans.

 

Require regular contact to discuss issues of moderate importance; occasionally requires communication with management.  Excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail are essential including business acumen; problem identification and solution skills; ability to transfer knowledge of audit and accounting principles into audit performance; strong organizational skills; accuracy with figures and records;  ability to communicate with others in an effective and tactful manner; and ability to effectively write various reports or other written communications.

Require excellent analytical, written, verbal and presentation skills.  

 

Working knowledge of personal computers and their software to include Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and Google Suite.

 

Varied work environment: office setting, administrative offices, warehouse and school environments as needed.

 

This position is a 225 day/grade 24 position and pays for experience up to the midpoint of the salary range.
