POSIITON SUMMARY:

This position works to increase and improve parent/family and community involvement with
families of students with disabilities in Clayton County Public Schools; trains parents and provides information in order to encourage communication with parents/families and the community. This position reports to the Director of the Department of Exceptional Students or designated assignee.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works as part of support team for students with disabilities with the director,
coordinators, support staff, parents, instructional staff and community members to develop, execute and assess a strategic plan for parental involvement.

 

Assists staff at schools and special education support staff to understand the value of parent involvement and work to build their capacity to establish and maintain positive relationships with parents in order to boost student achievement.

 

Helps parents understand what their children need to know to be successful learners and offer specific ways for parents to support their children. Informs families about their Rights under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA). Administers Parent Surveys/listens to parent needs.

 

Conducts training and distributes accurate, timely information and supportive materials to parents and staff. Builds bridges between school and home.

 

Helps to build partnerships between families, schools, support staff, and the community organizations to reach the hard-to-reach parents of students with disabilities. Meets regularly with stakeholders to discuss progress and obstacles.

 

Supports the appropriate management of IDEA funds for parental involvement.

 

All other duties as assigned, in order to perform the above services.

 

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma Required. Family Liaisons must have 60 semester credit hours from an accredited college or university or an Associate's Degree (or higher). Bachelor’s degree preferred.


Family Liaison should be the parent or relative of a student with a disability.


3-5 five years of working with parents/families and community members preferred.


No certification required.
