POSITION SUMMARY:
The Elementary Paraprofessional provides student assistance for K-5 students under professional guidance and supervision of K-5 teachers in the district. Elementary paraprofessionals work with children individually or in small groups by providing basic instruction in abilities and skills developmentally appropriate to the student. This position is also responsible for assisting the teachers in a variety of settings and with a variety of scheduled activities for the successful operation of the program. This position reports to the Principal or designee.
KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:
Conducts small group or individual classroom activities with students based on lesson plans developed by the teacher. Assists with preparation of materials for instruction (including the copying/duplicating of materials, construction of bulletin boards, grading work, etc.).
Types and processes correspondence, reports, orders, circulation, and catalog cards. Operates the computerized circulation system and records. Files catalog cards, vertical file material, and order cards. Assists in inventory of materials and equipment. Assumes responsibility for operation of the media center and supervision of students in the approved absence of the media specialist
Assists with routine record keeping, housekeeping; assists with school-wide supervision such as loading/unloading buses.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
One of the below requirements must be met:

1. Hold an associate’s degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution.
OR
2. Have completed two (2) years of college coursework (sixty [60] semester hours or [90] quarter hours) above the remedial level with a grade of “C” or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution.
OR
3. Have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Paraprofessional experience serving school age children desirable. *Bilingual or bicultural experience required for certain positions.
Makes recommendations or decisions, which usually affect the classroom.
Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC-issued Paraprofessional License. Eligibility is based on the education requirements outlined in Formal Education. Note: The Certification Team will apply for the Paraprofessional License upon hire.
