POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs inspections, repairs and preventive maintenance on Clayton County Public School buses. Determines needed repairs and/or replacements on district vehicles; ensures the availability of vehicles in safe operating condition. This position reports to the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Diagnoses potential vehicle malfunctions (e.g. using computer diagnostic equipment, etc.) for needed repairs and/or replacements. Tests equipment and evaluates component failure. Inspects, evaluates, maintains, and repairs all related vehicles and equipment.
Performs complex mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of school buses and other automotive equipment. Repairs or overhauls brake systems, clutches, differentials, transmissions, and front and rear axles; Repairs generators, starters, lights and ignition etc.
Make emergency repairs to equipment in the field; makes proper recommendations to shop supervisor for repair.
Provides instruction and oversight to other mechanics when needed.
Maintains and repairs heavy equipment (e.g. buses, forklifts, etc.) Assumes responsibility for all materials (parts, tools, equipment, and/or vehicles assigned. Have ready access to all tools, parts, and equipment issued.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB DESCRIPTION:
High School diploma or GED certificate required. Vocational training in area required.
2 - 3 years automotive, maintenance experience.
Must be computer literate. Applies, recommends and implements technology concepts to improve the effectiveness of the Maintenance Department.
Valid GA Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) of class B.
Makes recommendation under the guidance and supervision of Maintenance Supervisor. Minimal independent judgment is necessary.
Requires regular contact with internal and external personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance.
Provides training and guidance to Maintenance personnel as needed.
Variable work environment - Maintenance shop, and emergency calls.
Potential hazards of this position include regular exposure to electricity, and chemicals. Subjected to wide range of temperature.
Ability to wear appropriate safety equipment, including mask, respirator, safety glasses and/or goggles, ear protectors, protective hat, gloves, coveralls, etc. as required.
Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds frequently and one (100) pounds occasionally.
Walking, standing, kneeling, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling and lying near and under vehicle, reaching in all directions for eight (8) hours per day.
NOTE: This is a grade 23, 225 day position that pays for experience up to a Step 4. |
