POSITION SUMMARY:

Works to increase and improve parent/family and community involvement within assigned school at Clayton County Public Schools; trains parents and provides information in order to encourage communication with parents/families and the community.  This position reports to the Director of ESOL/Second Language Learning. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides interpretation and translation services that support language minority parents, and to meet the needs of the parents and the needs of the District.  Serves as a liaison to parents and schools.  Must have excellent command of spoken and written English and target language (Spanish).

 

Builds bridges between school and home by teaching parent classes and workshops related to Title III/EL student achievement, and making presentations to schools and departments concerning cultural issues.   

 

Assists with enrollment of immigrant and EL students at the International Center and local schools.  Helps to build partnerships between families, schools, and the community.

 

Participates in required professional learning activities.  Participates in planning and development of reports.  Maintains and updates department logs and other required documents/reports.

 

All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.

 

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution AND have passed the language proficiency American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) assessments, Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) and Writing Proficiency Test (WPT), at the Advanced-Mid level or higher required.

 

Minimum of three (3) years of bilingual (Spanish) and bicultural experience required. Minimum of three (3) years of working with parents/families and community members preferred.

 

Prior experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing with parents, schools, community and District office personnel.  Makes recommendations or decisions which usually affect the entire department/school.

 

Valid driver’s license required.

 

Requires regular, frequent communication with internal school administrative personnel.

 

Requires regular, frequent communication with different constituencies: schools, parents, community etc. 

 

Requires excellent written and verbal skills.

 

Normal classroom/school and office settings.

 

May require travel to the Office of Second Language Learning and school sites, as assigned.

 

Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping.  

Light lifting or carrying twenty (20) lbs. or less.

 

 

NOTE: This is a grade 22 , 200-day position that pays for experience up to a Step 4.
