POSITION SUMMARY:
The Magnet Specialist ensures the school is meeting all STEMifying Clayton County milestones on time and within budget while monitoring and coordinating the day-to-day operations of the project school and providing the leadership needed to effectively guide the implementation of the project. Serves as a liaison between the school, the district and the project partners to provide curricular support and assistance. This position also monitors marketing and recruitment efforts, implementation of professional development activities, and progress towards achieving project goals and objectives. Assists with monitoring the voluntary desegregation plan and ensures that there is equity of all activities within the school, and researches and implements desegregation strategies. Supports the administrative team with ensuring the Magnet program is aligned with the state approved requirements and curriculum, as well as the Magnet Schools of America Standards of Excellence. Attends District training and meetings in order to redeliver information, and assists with informing the administrative team and teachers of the implications of adjustments to the curriculum. Responsible for implementing the school’s marketing and recruitment plan, and promotes the program to ensure equitable access to all demographic groups; including but not limited to English Language Learners and students who receive special education services. Develops partnerships with parents, community groups, industry partners, and other organizations in order to support student learning and ensure the partners are aligned to the school’s magnet theme. This full-time position is MSAP grant funded and thereby staffed year-to-year. This position reports to the School Principal.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists with the development and implementation of curriculum support as it relates to STEMifying Clayton County. Ensures District-level personnel, teachers, and Principals are familiar with any curriculum changes in the respective content areas. Works collaboratively with teachers, project providers, and district to develop quality curriculum resources to support instruction including instructional plans and assessments. Monitors the implementation of the theme-based magnet program.
Assists school sites with analyzing program data and state assessment data and identifying effective instructional practices to support teachers in the teaching of theme-based curriculum. Conducts observations of teachers/students within the Magnet program. Conducts professional learning sessions at school sites as needed. Provides support to teachers in their classrooms through coaching, modeling, and mentoring.
Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Engages in vertical articulation of District K-12 instructional goals and objectives. Assists with the implementation of a variety of student enrichment programs.
Assists in the assignment of students to magnet programs. Initiates and maintains periodic uploads of student information files from the student information system. Maintains constant communication with the appropriate personnel to coordinate transportation of students enrolled in magnet schools/programs.
Assists in designing school’s marketing literature for the magnet program. Disseminates information about magnet schools/programs to parents and interested persons in the community. Coordinates magnet school/program activities (i.e., magnet fairs, recruitment fairs, etc.) with those in other District departments. Participates in additional fairs outside of the District-sponsored fairs.
Assists appropriate District personnel to ensure the school adheres to racial guidelines, and that Limited English Proficient and Exceptional Education Students are provided equal access and appropriate auxiliary services.
Organizes required auditions and/or interviews, and submits results to the appropriate District personnel.
Assists District personnel with communicating lottery results and next steps to parents.
Ensures that all school staff are abreast of the information outlined in the School Choice Guide.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree in educational field required.
Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience required.
Requires inter-division coordination; makes decisions and recommendations which affect the assigned division, but at times affects others outside of the assigned division.
GaPSC Certification at Level 5 or higher in the related content field. Educational Leadership certification preferred.
High level of judgment: supervisor will review established broad objectives and approve executive-level decisions.
Requires regular, frequent contact with internal and external personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for interacting and working with various levels of individuals.
Normal office and classroom settings.
May require travel to off-site training locations and school site visits.
Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. Light lifting or carrying twenty (20) lbs. or less; may require moderate lifting of twenty (20) lbs. or more occasionally as related to work.
NOTE: This is a grade 28, 200 day position.
