POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides information and counsels employees, sends correspondence to the insurance carrier, reconciles benefit reports and other departmental processes, and compiles and distributes information regarding employee voluntary and non-voluntary benefits, leaves, Leave Without Pay (LWP),etc. Absence Management. This position reports to the Benefits Manager.
KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:
Serves as point of contact for new employees (classified and certified) for benefits materials and processes. Maintains enrollment and change forms for Health, Dental, Vision, Disability, and Life Insurance; enters and clears deductions as necessary; provides information to employees regarding Short Term and Long Term Disability claims.
Provides insurance company with employee’s information and amount of insurance selected; verifies amount of payments on Short Term and Long Term Disability claims, confers with carrier if necessary. Coordinates with Payroll and vendors to reinstate benefits as needed. Reconciles billing with State Benefits Plan and other benefit payroll deductions.
Enters and processes departmental leave requests (Long Term Disability, and sick leave bank as appropriate, etc.) Serves as benefits file room attendant as designated, and back up in all Benefits and Human Resources (front desk) Department functions as applicable.
Assists employees with various benefits needs (death benefits, beneficiary coverage, composes correspondence to insurance carriers etc.); acts as a liaison between employees and vendors to troubleshoot claims and eligibility problems.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILTIES:
High School diploma or GED certificate required. Associates degree in Business, Accounting, Human Resources, or related field preferred.
2-3 years’ experience working in Human Resources, payroll, or benefits preferred. Prior experience in benefits or accounting; makes minimal decisions and recommendations which affect the activities of others.
Light independent judgment is necessary. Decisions made on an as-needed basis to establish operation of the office.
Requires regular, frequent contact with internal personnel of decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with inter-organizational teams.
