POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists in performing skilled repair, installation, and preventative maintenance programs of all electronics equipment (security and fire alarm systems, data distribution wiring and fiber optic cabling, telecommunications and intercom equipment, video distribution and surveillance equipment, door access and all low voltage systems). This position reports to the Electronics Supervisor.
KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:
Assists in performing all electronics repairs and/or installations; installs electronic equipment, system, and associate wiring using appropriate safety procedures; accurately diagnose electronics issues of all types.
Performs preventative maintenance as required of various equipment, fixtures, inside and outside of all buildings in the district.
Assumes responsibility for all materials (parts, tools, equipment) and assigned vehicles; have ready access to all tools, parts, and equipment issued.
Operates different equipment (hand tools, wire cutters, soldering irons test equipment, small drills, laptop and voltage meters, etc) relevant to repairs and installations.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or GED certificate required.
Electronics experience preferred.
Makes repair decisions which impact the schools/buildings within the District.
Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred.
Makes decisions and recommendations under the guidance of Electronics Supervisor, Mechanic III, and Mechanic IV.
Requires regular, frequent contact with internal and external personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of importance.
Applies, recommends, and implements technology concepts to improve the effectiveness of the department. Familiarity and knowledge of computer applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Google Suite).
Responsible for the welfare of others: minimal-major depending on task being performed.
Variable work environment – Facilities Services, school grounds, and all buildings; subjected to a wide range of weather conditions and temperatures.
May be on call after normal work hours (24 hours a day, seven days a week) and in emergency situations.
Walking, standing, kneeling, driving for eight (8) hours per day; must be able to climb a thirty (30) foot ladder and negotiate stairs.
Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds frequently and one-hundred (100) pounds occasionally.
As part of the hiring process for this position, a pre-offer/pre-employment physical examination is required. Applicants are responsible for the cost of the examination (up to $300) and will be reimbursed upon successfully passing the examination and hired with Clayton County Public Schools-Facilities Services.
NOTE: This is a grade 18, 225-day position that pays for experience up to a Step 4. |
