POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists in performing skilled repair, installation, and preventative maintenance programs of all electrical equipment including lights, receptacles, switches, breakers, disconnects etc. This position reports to the Electrical Supervisor.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists technicians/master technicians in performing all electrical repairs and/or installations; installs electrical equipment, systems, and associated wiring using appropriate safety procedures.
Performs preventative maintenance as required of various equipment, fixtures, inside and outside of all buildings in the district.
Responsible for availability of all parts, tools, and equipment on assigned vehicle.
Operates hand tools, wire cutters, test equipment, small drills, and voltage meters, and other tools relevant to repairs and installations.
Assists with District and emergency and/or general assignments as operationally necessary.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or GED required.
Electrical experience preferred.
Makes repair decisions which impact the schools/buildings within the district.
Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred.
Makes decisions and recommendations under the guidance of Electrical Supervisor, Mechanic III, and Mechanic IV.
Requires regular, frequent contact with internal and external personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of importance.
Familiarity with computer applications preferred
Applies, recommends, and implements technology concepts to improve the effectiveness of the department. Familiarity and knowledge of computer applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Google Suite).
Variable work environment – Facilities Services Complex, school grounds, and all buildings; subjected to a wide range of weather conditions and temperatures.
Provides periodic on-call support after normal work hours (twenty-four [24] hours a day, seven [7] days a week) to alleviate emergency situations.
Walking, standing, kneeling, driving for eight (8) hours per day; must be able to climb a thirty (30) foot ladder and negotiate stairs.
Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds frequently and one-hundred (100) pounds occasionally.
As part of the hiring process for this position, a pre-offer/pre-employment physical examination is required. Applicants are responsible for the cost of the examination (up to $300) and will be reimbursed upon successfully passing the examination and hired with Clayton County Public Schools-Facilities Services.
NOTE: This is a grade 18, 225-day position that pays for experience up to a Step 4. |
