POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs all repairs, installations, and preventative maintenance on all plumbing systems and equipment at all buildings within the district.  Ability to read tape measure. Knowledge in processing paperwork electronically utilizing Word, Excel, Outlook, and Google. This position reports to the Plumbing Supervisor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operates hand tools as assigned by supervisory staff, sewer machines relevant to repairs and installations.

Assembles plumbing equipment. Records repairs made and parts used according to departmental guidelines.

Accurately diagnoses malfunctioning plumbing equipment and systems including pipes, tanks, pumps, drains, tubing and fittings, valves, sewer machine, fixtures-sinks, tubs and other related plumbing equipment. 

Works with other Facility Services and district personnel. 

Assists with District and emergency and/or general assignments as operationally necessary.

All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

High School diploma or GED required; trade specific certificate preferred.

Minimum of one (1) year plumbing experience preferred.

Makes repair decisions which impact the schools/buildings within district

Valid Georgia driver’s license required; CDL preferred

Makes decisions and recommendations under the guidance and supervision of Plumbing Supervisor

Requires regular contact with internal and external personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of importance

Requires minimal managerial skills

Familiarity with computer applications preferred

Minimal-major depending on task being performed

Variable work environment – Facility Services Complex, school grounds, and all buildings; subjected to a wide range of weather conditions and temperatures.

May be on call after normal work hours (24 hours a day, seven days a week) and in emergency situations.

Walking, standing, kneeling, driving for eight (8) hours per day; must be able to climb a thirty (30) foot ladder and negotiate stairs.

Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds frequently and one (100) pounds occasionally.

As part of the hiring process for this position, a pre-offer/pre-employment physical examination is required. Applicants are responsible for the cost of the examination (up to $300) and will be reimbursed upon successfully passing the examination and hired with Clayton County Public Schools-Facilities Services.

NOTE: This is a grade 18 , 225 day position that pays for experience up to a Step 4.
