POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides Health and Physical Education instructional support to students. Utilizes current strategies and theories to plan and implement lessons. Required to provide effective delivery of sports/activity coaching to K-12 secondary school age children.  This position reports to the Principal and indirectly to the Athletic Director

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructs students, using various teaching methods, such as lecture, audiovisual aids, demonstration and other materials to supplement presentations relative to specific content field. 

 

Assigns lessons and corrects homework; administers tests to evaluate students’ progress, record results and issue reports to inform parents of progress.  Maintains discipline in classroom.  Supervise behavior outside the classroom (i.e., halls, bus, lunch/cafeteria, rest room duty.

 

Required to coach student athletes in sport(s) or co-curricular activity.   Works with the Coaching Staff in setting rules, policies and regulations for the team.

 

Prepares course outlines and objectives according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.  Guides and encourages secondary school age student athletes to make appropriate decisions about further participation in sport(s) and co-curricular activities.

 

Conducts parent/teacher conferences to review student’s progress, performance, and behavior problems.  Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops.

 

Works closely with other partners to help monitor the impact of delivery and healthy lifestyles.

 

All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.

 

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree or higher required.  The GHSA requires that coaches complete the ‘PREPARE/FIST AID” and the “Principals of Coaching” exams for the coached sport.

 

Minimum of one (1) year of teaching experience preferred.

Coaches are required to meet all policies and regulation in accordance with the GHSA Constitution and By-Laws. 

 

Certification by the State of Georgia in Education T-4 to T-7 and content area specialization as required by the GaPSC.

Georgia High School Association Coaching exam required.

 

Excellent classroom management required.  Responsible for multiple functions of supervision (athletes, equipment and staff as needed) with a high-level accountability for effective operation and results.

 

Normal classroom/school setting.

 

Must be able to stand and walk approximately seven (7) to seven and one-half (7½) hours per day.  Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. Light lifting or carrying; twenty (20) lbs. or less.
